Z39.50 Agency US Library
of Congress. Best resource on Z39.50 (the Library of Congress is the official
maintanence agency for Z39.50). Briefly Z39. is the abbreviation for the
section of the NISO which develops the ANSI standards in the areas of library
and information sciences. Several Z39. standards exists such as
Z39.2, Z39.48 and Z39.63. The standard, Z39.50 governs information searching
and retrieval service used in library applications. e.g in library OPACs.
